Job Description

The Director of Forever Lancaster (Director) reports to the Executive Vice President (EVP) and interfaces regularly with the CEO and Leadership Team of the Community Foundation. This position is the key Community Foundation staff leader of all aspects of the Forever Lancaster Initiative. Forever Lancaster is a large-scale, long-term community initiative, which seeks to educate and inspire all of Lancaster County about the importance and accessibility of working with the Community Foundation to leave a lasting gift for Lancaster. A successful Forever Lancaster will inspire residents to entrust their personal philanthropic legacies to the Lancaster County Community Foundation. This will be a multifaceted effort that emphasizes development of personal relationships, but also includes community education, wide-scale marketing, targeted educational programming and cultivation of select groups (i.e. professional advisors, accounts, estate planning attorneys), and the ability to work in close partnership with leaders and development officers from across the community benefit sector. This is a hands-on leadership position with emphasis on individual engagement and relationship-building, and where success is measured primarily by signed pledges of future gifts, in addition to metrics indicating community connection and educational efforts.

Principal Responsibilities:

Proactively work to build rapport and individual relationships throughout the community that lead to fund establishment, legacy gifts, and grow both the current endowment and the future pipeline of perpetual funds managed by the Community Foundation and working in Lancaster County.
Develop and execute Forever Lancaster operational plan, including the annual budget for all development activities (in coordination with a volunteer driven Forever Lancaster Coordinating Committee, Staff and Board leadership and in conjunction with the organization’s strategy plan).
Participate actively in community outreach, enhance personal knowledge and understanding of Lancaster County community, and establish visible presence and rapport to further the goals of the Foundation.
Proactively seek out and build relationship with donor referral sources (i.e. professional advisors, non-profit organizations, etc.) and respond in a timely, sensitive, and positive manner to donors.
Evaluate product offerings and recommend modifications as warranted (with Forever Lancaster Coordinating Committee); evaluate new donor-centered products for consideration by Board of Directors.
Coordinate and manage all donor identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, recognition, and benefit strategies.
Build relationships with nonprofit organizations, counsel them regarding endowment building strategies, and inform them of the Foundation’s organizational/agency fund option.
Actively participate in local and regional fundraising organizations, both in community foundation field and generally.
Maintain working knowledge of gift planning techniques and utilize appropriate legal counsel and advisors when necessary.
Manage and grow the development pipeline, providing monthly status reports to staff and board of the Community Foundation.

Forever Lancaster Coordinating Committee
Professional Advisors Committee
Nonprofit Advisory Committee

Minimum Requirements:

Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
A proven self-starter with the ability to work independently.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with experience in public speaking and presentation.
Knowledge of the fundraising process while upholding the highest ethical and legal standards.
Bachelor’s degree required; Community Foundation experience and/or specialized training in development, planned giving, and/or marketing a plus.
