Upland Country Day School, a preschool through grade nine school in Kennett Square, PA seeks to fill a temporary opening for a middle school Learning Specialist. The position would begin immediately and last until the end of this school year in June.

The role of the Learning Specialist is to support students with different learning styles by providing intervention and remediation; to support teachers in their efforts to advance students with varied learning needs within the classroom; to work with parents and outside professionals in order to better support students. Each student guided by the Learning Specialist is expected to achieve at a high academic and personal level according to his/her potential. The Learning Specialist reports directly to the upper school (grades 6-9) Dean of Faculty and Head of School.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Teaching a daily academic support program for grades 6, 7, 9
Teaching a daily reading skills class for grade 5 (Bookworm Program)
Teaching bi-weekly study skills program for grade 6
Reviewing academic content, as needed
Implementing student learning recommendations
Providing weekly communication between teachers, students and parents
Providing testing accommodations
Providing coverage of the “Early Birds” program from 7:30-8:05 a.m.

Relevant education and experience in the following areas:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
Special education and/or reading specialist training and experience
Knowledge of relevant technology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to implement formal and informal assessment programs including WJIV and ERB
Ability to coach executive functioning: time management, organization and study skills
