The GED to Health Care Careers Program serves over 50 students ages 17-24 per year at District 1199C Training & Upgrading Fund. The program is designed to work intensively with students as they work towards obtaining their GED and transition into health care careers or college. The program provides a holistic approach to education and engages youth on every level from academics to personal growth and development.
The coordinator will be responsible for implementing an approach grounded in Positive Youth Development and be familiar with Restorative Justice and other alternative models for effective program implementation. This person is a key member of the team, responsible for providing direction on various program elements and is expected to jump in and lead or offer support where needed.
This program that continues to develop over time to best meet the needs of young adults and is need of a strong leader in youth development to help shape it. Looking for an individual with initiative, ability to work as part of a team – often in a leadership role, strong background developing innovative and creative youth programming, and possess excellent team building and documentation skills.

Specific functions are as follows:
Recruits, screens, and enrolls students – develops and implements a strategy that ensures a pipeline of students are able to transition into programming.
Designs and implements a robust screening process that engages applicants in programming that motivates them to pursue their education and enroll in the program at the same time that they are challenged to come to terms with their barriers.
Provides direction around program design and implementation that results in student retention and meets programmatic goals and required outcomes.
Understands the programmatic infrastructure that is needed to effectively engage youth in project based learning and work-based learning.
Builds internal and external partnerships that enrich the students’ experiences – including college partnerships that result in campus tours, employer relationships that result in work-based learning and employment opportunities, and community partnerships that result in referral opportunities to support recruitment and enhanced services for students in need of additional supports.
Ensures that the culture of the program is one that is trauma informed, meets youth where they are and integrates creative techniques as a means of engaging youth.
Provides weekly individual counseling and case management or as needed when crises occur.
Facilitates a career planning process resulting in a career/education path plan for each student.
Facilitates a program of speakers of healthcare employers and practitioners as well as employer and higher education site visits (and other health related institutions) to ensure that students have access to understanding the full spectrum of health and human service careers.
Facilitates life skills groups.
Implements weekly data entry into agency ETO and funder databases, monthly outcome tracking and preparation of internal and funder reports.
Initiates and maintains student files with weekly case management notes and other agency and funder document requirements that ensure that files are in compliance for audits.
Supports grant writing as needed.
Manages paperwork required for successfully enrolling students, ensuring that they meet qualifications/eligibility for participation.
Makes purchases related to programming and processes payments for students enrolled in programming.
Organizes weekly team meetings to discuss student progress and plan interventions.
Tracks best practices and use date to inform decisions and program design.

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with a Masters Degree preferred, and 5 to 8 years of experience minimally working with young adults. Background in education preferred, but not required. Must show track record of developing innovative programming for youth and provide examples of such. Evidence of a strong background in coordinating or administering youth programming.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Windows Operating System required.

Working Conditions: Working conditions are those normally found in an office environment.
